Alexander Dawson's life changed forever after overhearing a shipboard debate on Mormonism in 1852. He joined the church in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, where he married Elizabeth Fowle. The Dawsons immigrated to Utah in 1860, where Alexander became one of the most prosperous farmers in Davis County. Many of Alexander and Elizabeth's descendants still live in Davis County.
